In an effort to combat the growing social menace of substance abuse, a De-addiction Camp was organized at Asharfi Nagar, Khajrana, by Universal Peace and Social Development Society, with active support from Index Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Indore. The initiative was undertaken in line with the vision of the Index Group of Institutions to actively contribute to societal well-being. Chairman of the Index Group of Institutions, Shri Suresh Singh Bhadoria, has consistently emphasized that medical institutions must play a vital role in addressing social challenges along with imparting quality education. Speakers at the camp highlighted that addiction cannot be eliminated by government agencies or healthcare professionals alone; rather, it requires collective efforts from all sections of society. Families, women, teachers, educational institutions, and community organizations were urged to play a proactive role in protecting youth from falling into addiction.
The camp was inaugurated by senior psychiatrist Dr. RamGulam Razdan, who stated that addiction is not an incurable disease and can be overcome with timely medical intervention, counseling, and strong willpower of the affected individuals. He emphasized the importance of empathy, awareness, and sustained support in the recovery process. Dr. Anil Bhandari, while addressing the participants, expressed concern over the rapidly increasing trend of substance abuse among youth in Indore and stressed the need for continuous, large-scale awareness and de-addiction programs. Other distinguished speakers, including Father Pius, Pramod Namdev, Syed Irshad Ali, and Tariq Sheikh, also shared their insights on social responsibility and the importance of community participation in building an addiction-free society.
During the camp, 154 patients suffering from substance addiction, along with other individuals with various health concerns, received free medical consultation and treatment. On this occasion, a book titled “Collective Efforts Are Essential”, published to raise awareness against substance abuse and authored by Dr. RamGulam Razdan and social worker Shafi Sheikh, was formally released by the dignitaries. The program commenced with a warm welcome of guests by Iliyas Khan, Javed Patel, Pranita Dixit, Ashok Mittal, Salim Patel, and Bharat Singh. The event was efficiently conducted by Shafi Sheikh, and the vote of thanks was presented by Pranita Dixit. Index Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, under the guidance of its leadership, remains committed to social responsibility and continues to contribute actively towards the creation of a healthier and addiction-free society.
