Index Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Indore, conducted a deeply emotional and dignified Cadaveric Oath Ceremony for the newly admitted MBBS batch within the Department of Anatomy. The ceremony was organized to imbibe respect, empathy, and human values among the students, acknowledging the cadaver as the first and most significant teacher in medical education. The event also included a special tribute and felicitation for the families of body donors who made the courageous decision to contribute to the advancement of medical science. The institute honored late Smt. Sheela Chandalya, whose body was donated for educational purposes, and extended heartfelt respect to her husband Shri Mitthulal Chandalya and family for their extraordinary humanitarian decision. Their contribution symbolizes the highest form of social responsibility and continues to inspire the medical community.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sanjeev Narang, Vice Chancellor, Malwanchal University, described body donation as a noble act of service and a priceless gift to medical learning. He emphasized that cadavers are regarded as the first anatomy teachers, enabling students to understand the complexity of the human body and establish the foundation required to become competent and compassionate doctors. He expressed that body donors serve society not only during their life but continue their legacy of service even after death. Dr. G.S. Patel noted that by taking the Cadaveric Oath, students pledge to uphold dignity and respect for the donated body and commit themselves to society’s service as responsible medical professionals. He added that body donation instills moral values, empathy, and a sense of responsibility in future doctors.
Speaking at the ceremony, senior physician Dr. G.P. Pal referred to body donation as the supreme donation, comparing the donated body to a precious textbook that shapes the future of healthcare. He expressed deep gratitude, stating that every patient treated in the lifetime of these students will indirectly benefit from the generosity of body donors. The ceremony witnessed the presence of Vice Dean Dr. Romi Shrivastava, Dr. Prem Nyati, Head of Anatomy Dr. Vimal Modi, Dr. Rajendra Singh, Dr. Manish Gupta, Dr. Vijendra Singh, Dr. Akanksha Sharma, Dr. Pooja Vishwakarma, faculty members, and first-year MBBS students. The program served as a powerful reminder of the ethical foundation of medical education and reinforced Index Medical College’s commitment to compassionate learning, service to humanity, and excellence in healthcare.
