On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, Index Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, under the aegis of Malwanchal University, organized a series of educational initiatives to raise awareness about the severe health consequences of tobacco use. A street play was presented by students within the hospital premises, effectively illustrating the harmful impact of tobacco through engaging and relatable scenarios. Additionally, the Department of Respiratory Medicine hosted a seminar where faculty, medical professionals, and students participated in insightful discussions on tobacco-related morbidity.

Dr. Ramgulam Razdan, a specialist in de-addiction and psychiatry, addressed the audience, elaborating on the direct correlation between tobacco consumption and the onset of serious health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, respiratory illness, cancer, and mental health disorders. He emphasized the increasing number of individuals seeking medical intervention for tobacco addiction and highlighted the detrimental effects of smokeless tobacco forms, such as gutka and chewing tobacco. Dr. Shubhangi Mahashabde underlined the particular risks faced by young adults and pregnant women, noting the long-term implications for both maternal and fetal health.

The program concluded with a poster exhibition featuring educational and preventive themes related to tobacco cessation. The exhibition was evaluated by a panel of senior faculty including Dr. Swati Prashant, Dr. Sameer Wadia, Dr. Anjikya Joshi, Dr. Shidra Khan, and Dr. Neha Hissaria, who also felicitated the winners. The overall initiative reflected the institution’s commitment to public health advocacy and preventive medicine.
