In observance of World Breastfeeding Week 2025, the Department of Community Medicine at Index Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Indore, conducted a comprehensive community outreach program at the Anganwadi Centre in Village Dhamnay on 5th August 2025. Themed “Prioritise Breastfeeding – Create Sustainable Support Systems”, the event focused on creating awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and mobilizing community support for mothers. The initiative was held under the visionary leadership and guidance of Shri Suresh Singh Bhadoria, Chairman, Index Group of Institutions, whose continued commitment to public health and social upliftment has always inspired such meaningful initiatives. The event was also graced by the esteemed presence of senior faculty members including Dr. Aarti Sahasrabuddhe (Professor & Head), Dr. A.K. Khatri, Dr. G.D. Bhide, Dr. Sangeeta Kori, Dr. Nisha Singh, Dr. Lubana Shaikh, and Dr. Rajendra Mahor.
The event featured an engaging role-play by MBBS Interns from the 2020 batch, highlighting the contrast between a family practicing recommended breastfeeding techniques and another adhering to outdated practices. This powerful performance served as an effective medium to educate the audience on early initiation, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, and the continued practice beyond infancy. Additionally, the interns showcased a series of educational posters addressing various aspects of breastfeeding including correct positioning, benefits, myth-busting facts, and the crucial role of family and community in supporting lactating mothers. The visual tools and interactive discussions helped reinforce key messages in a relatable and impactful manner.
The program saw enthusiastic participation from local mothers, their infants, students from the village government school, 3rd-year MBBS students, and interns, fostering a collaborative learning environment. The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a fruit distribution session for attendees, symbolizing care and community bonding. The initiative was well-received, with appreciation extended to the organizing team, Anganwadi staff, and all participants. This celebration not only aligned with global breastfeeding goals but also reflected the institution’s deep-rooted values of service, learning, and social responsibility under the guidance of Chairman Shri Suresh Singh Bhadoria.
